✦ Ritual Guideline: This script is offered as a basic guideline to help you voice your intention. It is not essential to adhere solely to it — feel free to speak from your heart, adapt the words to your own truth, or use it simply as a framework. Your intention is the most powerful ingredient in any banishing ritual.
🔥 Fire Safety: This ritual involves an open flame and burning parchment. Always burn paper in a fireproof cauldron or dish. Never leave a burning candle unattended. Keep water nearby. Extinguish all flames completely before leaving the space.
✦ WHAT YOU WILL NEED
- 🕯️ Black candle
- 🌑 Banishing oil
- 📜 Parchment paper & a pen
- 🌶️ Black pepper
- 🌍 Graveyard dirt (or substitute: black salt, crossroads dirt, ash from burned sage/rosemary, iron filings, or mullein)
✦ A NOTE ON GRAVEYARD DIRT
Traditional banishing work calls for graveyard dirt as a symbol of finality — what is sent away does not return. If you do not have graveyard dirt or prefer not to use it, black salt is the most powerful and accessible substitute. It carries the same energy of absorption, repulsion, and banishment. Use whichever feels most aligned with your practice.
✦ PREPARATION
Choose a waning moon night if possible — the waning moon supports releasing and banishing. Work at night. Place your black candle at the center. Have your parchment, pen, black pepper, and graveyard dirt (or substitute) arranged around it.
Take three grounding breaths. Know this: banishing is not an act of hatred — it is an act of sovereignty. You are reclaiming your space, your energy, your peace.
✦ ANOINT & IGNITE
Open your Banishing Oil. Anoint your black candle from wick to base — drawing the oil downward and away from you, to push what you are banishing out. Anoint your wrists. As you do, speak:
"I anoint this candle with intention.
What I name tonight, I release tonight.
What I release tonight shall not return.
So I will it. So it is."
Light your black candle.
"As this dark flame burns,
So burns away all that harms me,
All that drains me, all that haunts me.
Into the flame — and gone."
✦ THE WRITING
Take your parchment paper. Write clearly and specifically what you are banishing — a person's influence, a habit, a fear, a situation, an energy. Be direct. Name it.
Hold the parchment in both hands and speak:
"I name what I banish: [speak it aloud].
You have no more power over me.
You have no more place in my life.
I sever all ties, all cords, all hooks.
What was — is no more."
✦ THE BLACK PEPPER
Sprinkle black pepper over the written name on the parchment. Black pepper is a fierce banisher — it repels, it burns, it drives away.
"Pepper of fire, sharp and true,
Drive this from me — I am through.
Burn it away, scatter it far,
Let it trouble me no more."
✦ THE GRAVEYARD DIRT / BLACK SALT
Sprinkle your graveyard dirt or substitute over the parchment. This seals the banishment — what is buried stays buried. What is sent away does not return.
"Earth of endings, salt of protection,
I bury this now in your keeping.
What I release, hold it fast.
This chapter is closed. This is the last."
✦ THE BURNING
Fold the parchment away from you — always fold away to send away. Take it to your fireproof cauldron or dish. Light it from the black candle flame and let it burn completely. As it burns, speak:
"As this burns, so it is done.
The tie is cut. The cord is gone.
What was bound to me is now released —
Into ash, into nothing, into peace."
Watch it burn fully. Do not look away — witness the release.
✦ STATEMENT OF SOVEREIGNTY
When the ash has cooled, place both hands over your heart. Stand tall. Speak:
"I am free. I am clear. I am whole.
What was taken from me is returned.
What was draining me is gone.
I reclaim my energy, my peace, my power.
I move forward — unencumbered, unafraid.
So mote it be."
✦ CLOSING
"I give thanks to the forces that witnessed this banishing.
The work is done. The energy is released.
The circle is open but unbroken.
It is done. It is done. It is done."
Extinguish your candle. Take the ash outside and scatter it to the wind, bury it away from your home, or dispose of it away from your property — do not keep it indoors. Wash your hands with cold water and salt after the ritual to cleanse any residual energy.
✦ AFTER YOUR RITUAL
Banishing work is powerful — you may feel lighter immediately, or the shift may come over days. Do not speak of what you banished to others; silence seals the spell. If the situation or person attempts to re-enter your life, repeat the ritual at the next waning moon.
