✦ ABOUT LAMMAS
Lammas — also called Lughnasadh — falls on August 1st and marks the first harvest of the year. It is the moment when the sun is still strong but already beginning its descent, when the grain is cut and the first loaves are baked. It is a festival of paradox: abundance and sacrifice, fullness and the first whisper of letting go. This ritual honors what you have grown and harvested in your own life this year — the efforts that have borne fruit, the seeds that became something real.
✦ PREPARATION
Set up your altar with warmth and abundance. Place your gold or yellow candle at the center — gold for the sun at its peak, for the ripened grain, for the fullness of the harvest. Arrange your wheat or grain, sunflower, citrine, and harvest oil around it.
If you have bread, fruit, or any food of the harvest, place it on your altar as an offering. Lammas is a feast — let your altar reflect that.
Take three full, expansive breaths. Feel the warmth of summer in your body. Think of what you have worked for this year — what has grown, what has ripened, what is ready to be received. Begin.
✦ ANOINT & IGNITE
Open your Harvest Oil. Anoint your gold candle from base to wick — drawing upward, celebrating what has risen. Anoint your wrists, your hands — the hands that did the work — and your heart. As you do, speak:
"I anoint myself in celebration of the harvest.
These hands have worked. These hands have tended.
These hands have planted and watered and waited.
Now I receive what I have grown.
I am worthy of this abundance."
Light your gold candle.
"As this golden flame burns at the height of summer,
So burns my gratitude for all that has ripened.
The harvest is here. The abundance is real.
I receive it with joy and with thanks."
✦ THE WHEAT — HONORING THE WORK
Take your wheat or grain in both hands. Feel its weight — this is the result of months of growth, of sun and rain and patience. In your own life, the wheat represents everything you have worked toward this year.
"I hold the grain of my harvest —
The work I have done, the effort I have given,
The seeds I planted in faith and tended with care.
I honor the work. I honor the waiting.
I honor myself for not giving up.
The grain is cut. The harvest is in.
What I worked for is real.
I receive it now."
Place the wheat at the base of your candle as an offering.
✦ THE SUNFLOWER — FACING THE LIGHT
Hold your sunflower. The sunflower follows the sun across the sky — it is the symbol of devotion, of turning always toward the light, of joy in full bloom. At Lammas, it reminds us to celebrate fully before the light begins to wane.
"Sunflower, face of the summer sun,
Teach me to celebrate what I have become.
To stand in my fullness without apology —
To receive the light I have earned.
I am in bloom. I am in harvest.
I celebrate this moment fully."
Place the sunflower on your altar where it can be seen.
✦ THE CITRINE ACTIVATION
Hold your citrine in both hands. Citrine is the stone of abundance and solar energy — at Lammas, it amplifies the harvest energy and helps you fully receive and integrate what you have called in.
"Stone of the sun, stone of abundance,
Amplify my gratitude. Amplify my receiving.
Help me take in fully what I have grown —
Not to rush past it, not to minimize it,
But to truly receive it.
I am abundant. I am grateful. I am full."
Place the citrine beside your candle.
✦ THE GRATITUDE HARVEST
This is the heart of Lammas — the naming of what you have harvested. Speak aloud everything you are grateful for from this year so far: what has grown, what has been achieved, what has surprised you, what has been given to you.
"At this first harvest, I give thanks for:
[Speak your gratitude — be specific, be generous with yourself]
I have grown more than I knew I could.
I have received more than I dared to ask for.
I am grateful. I am full. I am blessed."
✦ THE SACRIFICE & THE SEED
Lammas also holds the wisdom of sacrifice — the grain must be cut to feed the people, and within every harvest is the seed of the next planting. Speak:
"I honor what I have given to reach this harvest —
The effort, the sacrifice, the things I let go of
So that this could grow.
And I hold within this harvest the seeds of what comes next.
I do not cling to the fullness — I trust the turning.
The wheel moves. I move with it.
What I harvest now feeds what I plant next."
✦ STATEMENT OF ABUNDANCE
Stand tall. Arms open. Feel the sun — real or imagined — on your face. Speak:
"I stand in my harvest — full, grateful, and complete.
I have worked. I have grown. I have received.
Abundance is not something I chase — it is something I am.
I carry the harvest within me wherever I go.
So mote it be."
✦ CLOSING
Let your gold candle burn safely. When ready to close:
"I give thanks to the sun for its light and its warmth.
I give thanks to the earth for her faithful abundance.
I give thanks to all who helped me grow this harvest.
The ritual is complete. The harvest is honored.
It is done. It is done. It is done."
Share food with someone you love today — Lammas is a feast, and feasts are meant to be shared. Leave a small offering of grain or bread outside for the earth.
✦ AFTER YOUR RITUAL
Write a list of everything you have harvested this year — achievements, growth, relationships, lessons. Keep it somewhere you can see it. As the wheel turns toward autumn, this list will remind you of what you built during the light. The harvest is real. You did this.
