Cord Cutting Ritual Script
⚠️ No Guarantees: Wiccan Center makes no guarantees regarding the outcomes of any ritual, spell, or spiritual practice. Results vary based on individual intention, energy, and circumstance. This script and the products in this kit are sold for spiritual and personal exploration purposes only. They are not a substitute for professional financial, medical, legal, or psychological advice.
✦ Ritual Guideline: This script is offered as a basic guideline to help you voice your intention. It is not essential to adhere solely to it — feel free to speak from your heart, adapt the words to your own truth, or use it simply as a framework. Your intention is the most powerful ingredient in any cord cutting ritual.
🔥 Fire Safety: This ritual involves open flame and burning herbs. Never leave burning candles unattended. Burn sage in a fireproof dish or abalone shell. Keep all flammable materials away from the flame. Keep water nearby. Extinguish all flames completely before leaving the space.
⚠️ Athame Safety: If using an athame or ritual blade, handle with care. Keep fingers clear of the cutting edge. Never use a blade near an open flame. Scissors are a perfectly valid and safe alternative.
✦ WHAT YOU WILL NEED
- 🕯️ Two candles (one to represent you, one to represent the person or situation you are cutting from)
- 🖤 Black cord
- ✂️ Scissors or athame
- 🌿 Lavender oil
- 🌱 Sage bundle
✦ PREPARATION
Choose a quiet space where you will not be disturbed. Place your two candles side by side — close enough that the black cord can connect them. Tie one end of the cord around the base of the first candle (you) and the other end around the base of the second candle (the person, relationship, habit, or situation you are releasing).
Light your sage bundle and cleanse the space — move the smoke around the room and around yourself. This clears the air before the work begins.
Take three grounding breaths. Know this: cord cutting is an act of love — for yourself. You are not cutting the person from existence. You are cutting the energetic drain, the unhealthy attachment, the hold they have on your peace.
✦ ANOINT & IGNITE
Open your lavender oil. Anoint the candle that represents YOU from base to wick — drawing upward, toward yourself, calling your energy back. Anoint your wrists and heart.
Anoint the second candle from wick to base — drawing downward and away, releasing that energy.
Light your candle first. Speak:
"I light this flame for myself.
I am here. I am present. I am whole.
I reclaim my energy, my peace, my power."
Light the second candle. Speak:
"I light this flame to honor what was.
I do not light it in anger or hatred —
I light it in acknowledgment.
This connection existed. Now it ends."
✦ THE NAMING
Place your hands on either side of the cord — one hand near your candle, one near the other. Feel the cord between you. Speak what this cord represents — the person, the relationship, the pattern, the pain. Name it clearly:
"This cord represents [name it aloud].
It has connected us in ways that no longer serve me.
It has carried [name what it carried — pain, obligation, fear, grief].
I acknowledge it. I honor what it once was.
And I release it now."
✦ THE CUTTING
Pick up your scissors or athame. Hold them over the cord. Take a breath. This is the moment of release — do it with intention, not anger. Speak:
"I cut this cord with love and with finality.
What was bound between us is now released.
I take back every piece of myself I gave.
I return every piece of them I carried.
We are free. I am free."
Cut the cord in one clean, decisive motion.
"It is done."
✦ THE LAVENDER HEALING
Take your lavender oil and anoint your heart, your wrists, and the back of your neck. Lavender seals the cut — it soothes the place where the cord was and begins the healing.
"Lavender, seal this space with peace.
Where the cord was, let healing grow.
Fill the space with calm, with light, with love for myself.
I am whole where I was once bound."
✦ THE SAGE SEALING
Light your sage bundle again. Cleanse yourself thoroughly — especially your hands, your heart space, and anywhere you felt the connection most strongly. This removes any residual energetic attachment.
"Sacred smoke, clear what remains.
Seal my aura. Seal my field.
What was cut cannot reattach.
I am clear. I am free. I am healed."
Extinguish the sage safely.
✦ CLOSING
Let your candle burn safely. Extinguish or let burn out the second candle — do not relight it. Take the cut cord and dispose of it away from your home — bury it, burn it in a fireproof dish, or throw it away off your property.
"I give thanks to all forces that witnessed this release.
The cord is cut. The tie is severed.
The circle is open but unbroken.
It is done. It is done. It is done."
Wash your hands with cold water and salt. Drink water. Ground yourself.
✦ AFTER YOUR RITUAL
You may feel immediate relief — or you may feel grief, and that is equally valid. Cord cutting doesn’t erase love; it releases attachment. Be gentle with yourself. If you feel the cord attempting to reattach — through contact, obsessive thoughts, or being pulled back — repeat the ritual at the next waning moon. Keep your lavender oil nearby and anoint your wrists whenever you feel the pull.
