Heat-treated or enhanced citrine is created by superheating amethyst or smoky quartz. These crystals take on a light yellow to dark brown hue depending on the amount of heat used and the duration this heat is applied. As amethyst and smoky quartz are much more abundant and easier to mine than natural citrine, this makes enhanced citrine a more sustainable and affordable alternative for collectors.
